Every Mytikas cabin is insulated to R-33 in the walls, R-45 in the roof and R-35 in the floor. We get there with two layers: three inches of closed-cell foam in every stud bay, and continuous rigid foam wrapped and taped around the unit.
Layer one: closed-cell foam in the frame
Closed-cell foam goes into each bay of the steel frame and fills the cavity edge to edge. There are no batts to slump and no gaps left at the corners.
Layer two: continuous rigid foam around it
Steel carries heat more readily than wood, so a steel frame needs more than cavity insulation. A continuous layer of rigid foam wraps the unit and is taped at the seams. It breaks the thermal bridge through the framing, which is the detail a cavity-only wall leaves unaddressed.
How that compares
We surveyed the published specifications of 25 park model manufacturers in September 2026. The full table, with sources, is on our Compare page.
| Mytikas | Typical park model, published specs | |
|---|---|---|
| Walls | R-33 | R-11 to R-19 |
| Roof | R-45 | R-19 to R-33 |
| Floor | R-35 | R-11 to R-22 |
Heat that matches the envelope
Insulation is half of comfort. The other half is the system behind it. A Rinnai boiler provides hot water and heat through a Unico high-velocity air handler, and an exterior condenser cools through the same air handler. Conditioned air reaches every room through small ducts. No RV furnace. No mini-split.
Questions we hear
Can I use the cabin all winter? Yes. Every cabin is insulated as described here, heated by a Rinnai boiler through a Unico high-velocity air handler, and built for a 90 PSF snow load as standard.
Natural gas, propane or electric? The boiler is available in all three. The air handler and air conditioning are electric.
What about heavy snow? 90 PSF is standard. A 140 PSF upgrade is available for $7,200 and is recommended above 10,500 ft or wherever local snow loads exceed 90 PSF.
Does foam attract mold or insects? Closed-cell foam and rigid foam board are not a food source for mold, termites or other insects. No material is pest-proof, which is one more reason the structure behind the foam is steel.
